Dedicated to Bioviolence Prevention and Preparedness

Concentration Areas

ISBI’s reports, publications and events will be focused on the following areas of study:

c1Medical Counter-Measure (MCM) Stockpiling & Delivery

Insufficient planning exists to ensure that vaccines, therapeutic products, including biological and small molecule interventions can be efficiently produced, stockpiled, and delivered when and where needed.  ISBI will study & promote logistical capabilities to limit the consequences of bio-violence.

c2Biosurveillance

Effective bio-surveillance is critical both to interdict bioviolence preparations and to rapidly respond if an attack occurs.  ISBI will consider how the U.S. and G-7 + Mexico initiatives for biosurveillance can be effectively globalized.

c3Bio-Attribution

For effective disease diagnosis and for interdicting further attacks, new forensic techniques for attributing responsibility are critical.  ISBI will evaluate methods for building international legal cooperation to put these techniques to optimal use.

c4Biosecurity

ISBI will organize an expert working group to consider harmonized international bio-security standards for pathogen and laboratory security, including registration and reporting of possession and transfer of pathogens.

c5Interdiction of Biothreats

ISBI will study how to strengthen detection and interruption of biothreats by improving information integration and analysis among law enforcement and other key sectors and stakeholders
